The Wiwen Nilsson Estate is delighted to announce the release of the first English-language monograph on silversmith, sculptor, jeweller, and artist Wiwen Nilsson.

This book, published by Rizzoli New York, is a tribute to Wiwen Nilsson as a pivotal figure in the history of Swedish design and acclaimed for his silverware, jewellery, and sculptural work. The publication celebrates Wiwen Nilsson’s national and international recognition, noted as he was for his modernist, streamlined forms which embody the essence of art deco and mid-century modern aesthetics.

Wiwen Nilsson transformed simple functional objects into true works of art and into unique and exclusive collectible pieces. This foresight anticipated a trend that would become prominent decades later, as evidenced by the history of modern design.

This first English-language review of his oeuvre until now, the book features exceptional new photography, captivating archival images, and insightful texts by leading international curators, commentators, and experts, offering a comprehensive examination of Wiwen Nilsson’s life and career and his significant contributions to the fields of design and art.

It provides a profound understanding of his artistic journey, personal development and inspirations, and professional milestones, enriched by previously unpublished research and perceptive new photography, placing particular emphasis on the interdisciplinary nature of Wiwen Nilsson’s work, showcasing his ability to bridge fine arts and functional design seamlessly.

The publication is edited by Dr Flavia Frigeri, with contributions by Alice Rawsthorn, Dr Teresa Kittler and Clare Phillips. Photography by Lorenzo Pennati.
